Boucherie les Provinces: “Butcher”
Christophe & Stephanie Dru’s handsome butcher shop-restaurant in the 11th is a popular little gem hidden behind the busy market stalls on the rue d’Aligre. Loyal neighborhood customers, including area chefs, line up throughout the day to buy viandes (meats) to take home or sit down for lunch and let Dru’s team do the cooking family-style.
With a no reservation policy, it gets busy early (especially on Sunday) and happy crowds linger quite a long time over a la carte cuts of meat cooked to order: côte de boeuf or veal for two, onglet in little or big appetite portions, steak tartare and grilled lamb or pork chops. If you choose anything off of the shelves that isn’t on the menu such as pigeon, chicken or duck – they’ll add just 9€ to the shelf price for the cooking. Everything is served with the addictive crispy oven roasted potatoes, house made Bearnaise sauce, green salad and special “epi” baguettes from our favorite neighborhood baker Fabrice le Bourdat over at Blé Sucre.
The wine list is short with stars such as Lapierre Morgon and Alsatian Binner – but he’s been adding a number of other natural wines weekly.
If you’re a carnivore, you’ll love Boucherie des Provinces as much as we do!
