L’Avant Comptoir Closes for Expansion Project
Last night Yves Camdeborde shut the doors to his wildly popular L’Avant Comptoir and will remain closed for one month until November 18th.
Although the communal wine bar is loads of fun, the standing room only narrow space can be maddening for diners because the staff & food producers are having to squeeze through the partying crowds hundreds of times a day to get to the walk-in frigos and storage space at the back of the bar. Not easy to raise wine glasses when crates of zucchini flowers, cartons of eggs, whole chickens, etc. are being hoisted over your head and behind your back.
Now that is a thing of the past – as Yves is moving all the food storage to the neighboring Burger & Beer dive he just bought on the other side of the hotel so he can expand the space in L’Avant Comptoir. He thought about adding some tables, but after interviewing staff and regulars, the zinc bar concept is beloved and not to be changed.
Does this mean you won’t be elbow-to-elbow because of the extra feet of room? Bah non. He could add another block of space and it’d still be packed to the rafters!
